My name is Ashley…

Welcome to my backyard.

This is my blog where I post about what really matters most in life: gardening and dogs.

…and food, naturally.

Check out my sunflowers.

Food falls out of them!

Ashley’s Island.

Hurricane Harvey had Ashley’s backyard flooded like WHOA.

Frontyard too.

There were extremely slow flushing toilets in the homes and No Wake signs on the streets of Alhambra Circle, but we were grateful and luckier than some other folks on the Gulf Coast.

IMG_20170826_114657983Saturday brought more rain, and the unicorn fell off of its pedestal.  There was a brief, successful unicorn rescue mission.  The unicorn is fine.  I need new rain boots.

Peace, love, and recovery.  Try to stay dry this hurricane season.

Madelene got me a cool new Jungle Fruit umbrella.umbrella

Thank you, Madelene!!

I have not yet seen a brown butterfly in the backyard.  Must be the new umbrella.brown_butterfly

My Jungle Fruit umbrella brings all kinds of butterflies to my backyard.

What is more exciting than a new banana leaf?banana_shoot_orchid

A new banana leaf with an orchid on it. – It’s so lucky.  It’s a star.

Under my umbrella…

The rain showed up right on time for a post-planting water job.

Don’t hate me for putting the cranberry lemonade hibiscus in the corner.  It’s sugarcane adjacent.

Bananas in the back!  Get up and Gogi bush on the mid-garden fence.

OK, it’s about time to hit up my backyard’s backyard for another SWFL sunset.  🙂

Ashley’s Edible Backyard

Hello ECHO.

This week I went to ECHO Global Farm in Ft. Myers.  Aaron and Jack helped me pick out some new fruits and vegetables to grow in my backyard.

The ECHO Tour is one of my favorite Southwest Florida special things to do.  It’s right up there with Sushi Thai’s dinner special and Clyde Butcher’s backyard.

Check out my new future edible landscaping:

  • Banana tree
  • Gogi berry bush
  • Sugar cane
  • Cranberry hibiscus (hellooooo cranberry lemonade.)

Feel free to contact me directly if you need more information about Sushi Thai’s dinner special.  It’s unbelievable.
